LIOCO Bottle Signing and Tasting with Kevin O'Connor
Greetings everyone! Passing along a special invitation from Mark Sayre, the Wine Director for TRIO at Four Seasons Hotel in Austin. Mark is hosting a beautiful LIOCO wine dinner next week. A rare (and fun!) fine-wine occasion with a few rare vintages from LIOCO. Please RSVP quickly, this one is not to be missed! Cheers - Ali
"July in Austin means H-O-T! So TRIO will focus our next event with one of the newest, most sought after producers of elegant, refreshing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay: LIOCO.
Friends Matt Licklider (an import specialist) and Kevin O’Connor (former Wine Director fort Wolfgang Puck’s famed Spago restaurant in Beverly Hills) started LIOCO to prove that ‘site specific’ wines could be created using special vineyard sites in California with Pinot and Chardonnay being the conduits. Creating a wine that is specific in its origin begins with recognizing the need for more difficult growing conditions (altitude, extreme temperatures, poor soils) and is followed through with Old World winemaking practices. Matt and Kevin have been met with success using this disciplined approach that harnesses not only a beautiful wine, but a wine that is very reflective of the place it came from and nowhere else—such singularity in wine is worth pursuing!
True to TRIO's dedication to selecting high quality, honest, small production wineries for our diner's wine experiences, the wines of LIOCO are scarce in quantity due to demand that we are so grateful to have them in Austin. Please join us as founder/owner, Kevin O’Connor, guides us through a thoughtfully paired menu from the culinary talents of Executive Chef Elmar Prambs and Chef de Cuisine Todd Duplechan. Please see the menu below and call TRIO at 512-685-8300 for reservations."
I look forward to seeing you at the table,
Mark

The 7th Annual Wein & Saengerfest will be held all day in historic downtown New Braunfels on Saturday, May 1, 2010. The big day includes wine and beer tastings, and a host of entertainment and activities that include continuous live music, a grape stomp, art market, food seminars, Chef’s Showdown, activities for the kids, and a farmers market - culminating with a street dance at Main Plaza.
Don't miss out on "Gourmage" The Best Cheese and Wine Shop South of Austin and North of San Antonio. Here's what they are up to for your enjoyment on Saturday.
1. Grilled Sandwich "Big Sal" an italian sausage, asiago, mozzarella, truffle oil, cremini mushrooms, roasted red pepper, onion on ciabatta. Paired beautifully with 2008 Handley Sauvignon Blanc from California's Anderson Valley.
2. Sandwich "Francesca" mozzarella, sun dried tomato, shitake, pepperoni, black olives on foccacia. Paired with 2008 Lange Pinot Gris from Oregon's Willamette Valley.
3. And with 2006 Storrs Christie Vineyard Chardonnay....Sandwich "Buffalo Bill" Monterrey Jack, Blue Cheese, Buffalo Chicken on bruchetta- Monterrey Jack and chardonnay, a true American combo? The ripenessof the chardonnay should hang in there with the blue cheese as welland offer a comparative/like pairing of creamy textures.
4. 2006 Teira Zinfandel too! Sandwich "The Perry" port poached pears, Gorgonzola, candied pecan, star anise on brioche-the savory, dark and sweet flavors are more hedonistic when paired up with this Zinfandel.
Those staying for the VIP Wine Tasting will have a chance to sip on LIOCO "Durell" Chardonnay, Handley Cellars Pinot Noir and Pellegrini Family Cloverdale Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon.
